Rooibos tea has created great excitement
and a growing reputation worldwide for
having superb health benefits.
This bright rooibos tea is a green shrub unique to South Africa, where it has been known and used over many hundreds of years. Grown in the Cape’s Cedarberg area where this valuable and enviable crop is picked, dried, packed and sent on its way.
Known as a red bush tea, Know as a red bush tea, rooibos has high anti-oxidants and unlike most soft drinks and juices contains no colours, additives or preservatives. It is a completely natural beverage and because it is rich in anti-oxidants it helps boost the immune system. Many people have claimed to use it to help them improve their mood as well as help with allergies, hay fever, asthma and eczema. For people prone to kidney stones this tea contains very little oxyalic acid. In addition, rooibos helps relieve stomach cramping and colic in babies. A cup of rooibos tea is a recommended drink for pregnant and nursing mothers.

Dynamic Steffen Olivier, of the Wellness Café,
has designed these creative invigorating drinks
using rooibos as their base, healthy and appealing!
MANGO ROOIBOS VANILLA AND CHILLI SMOOTHIE
125 – 200 ml Freshpak Rooibos Restoring Ginger
1 handful of ice blocks
100 g fresh or canned mango
1 cm vanilla pod, scraped
10 - 15 g sugar/ vanilla sugar (optional)
½ cm fresh chilli
(Serves 1)
Place all the ingredients in a food processor (or smoothie machine) and blitz until smooth. Remember not to put the skin of the vanilla pod into the blender, just the seeds that you have scraped out of the skin! Adjust the strength of the rooibos tea and sugar according to taste.
Note – If you are using canned mango you can substitute the sugar in this recipe with the liquid of the canned mangoes.
APPLE MELON CUCUMBER MINT AND ROOIBOS ICED COOLER
80 – 120 ml Freshpak Rooibos Lemon
80 ml apple juice (juice of half an apple)
40 ml cucumber juice (juice of 6 cm piece of cucumber)
60 ml melon juice (juice of 1/10 of a fresh green melon)
5 mint leaves
25 ml plain yoghurt (optional)
10 g sugar/vanilla sugar (optional)
½ handful of ice blocks
(Serves 1)
Place all your fresh fruit in the juicer (discard the flesh). Place all the ingredients in a food processor (or in a smoothie machine) and blitz until smooth.
Note – If you want to prepare this drink in advance or if the drink is going to stand for a while, I would advise adding plain yoghurt as this binds the ingredients.

In addition to their traditional caffeine free rooibos tea,
Freshpak has a wide range of herbal and green teas.
Wonderful served on their own and great
in freshly made breakfast smoothies.
BANANA MUESLI ROOIBOS YOGHURT AND MAPLE SYRUP BREAKFAST SMOOTHIE

80 g muesli or granola
1 banana
1 handful of ice blocks
5 - 15 ml maple syrup
(Serves 1)
Place all the ingredients in a food processor (or in a smoothie machine) and blitz until smooth.
Note – This is a flexible drink and you can ring the changes. If you like a crunchy breakfast smoothie add more muesli or if you prefer it smooth, add more yoghurt and less muesli. In addition you can substitute maple syrup with honey or brown sugar.
