Dr. Hauschka explains, "The secret of nurturing beauty stems from the inside as well as the surface, caring for body and soul in a way that will naturally result in the smooth skin and radiant glow of good health, whether one is 18 or 80! Purity and therapy are the rejuvenating prescription for healing and beauty.
It was Rudolf Hauschka that developed the essential principals of healing and beauty. After 20 years of trial and error he developed a method of extracting plants’ active ingredients as well as their vital energies. Elizabeth Sigmund joined Dr. Hauschka, specializing in creating medical substances that healed the skin and restoring underlying functions, creating healing formulas. She hoped to incorporate skin care into main stream medicine. Together they created herbal medicinal skin care from plants, which were harvested by hand at dawn when essential oils and life energies are strongest, creating a combination of medicinal properties and botanicals, which together have a powerful healing effect on the skin.

Almond & St John’s Wort Oil: A balancing and fortifying oil that soothes sensitive and dry skin whilst helping to keep the skin firm and supple.
Sometimes you feel uncomfortable in your own skin. In today’s hectic world, many children and adults alike find they have such sensitive, thin skin that they cannot fully protect themselves against external influences, and their skin reacts by becoming red, itchy and flaky. Help is available in the form of the warm, fragrant Almond St. John’s Wort Body Oil, containing soothing St. John’s Wort and Hops to smooth the skin and help keep it supple. This oil also helps the skin to maintain its natural moisture levels and is ideal for the treatment of dermatitis. It is also an excellent choice for calming, general-purpose massages.

Blackthorn Body Oil: Helps to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy.
This is a good general-purpose body oil and with its high plant silica content is beneficial in strengthening the skin and helping to prevent stretch marks. Use regularly during pregnancy and after the birth on the tummy and bust.
Lemon Lemongrass Body Oil: This invigorating oil enhances the skin’s elasticity and helps to discourage cellulite.
80 to 90 per cent of women are only too familiar with the unsightly appearance of cellulite, which develops as fat cells swell and push through the elastic connective tissues in the skin, causing the ‘orange peel’ effect on the skin’s surface. Cellulite can only be combated with a comprehensive treatment plan, starting by stimulating the circulation in the affected areas. Four Basic Vital Steps: cleansing, toning, moisturising and appropriate night care.
Facial Cleansing is the most important step of one’s skin care routine. Using a cleanser that strips the skin of its’ natural oils will create imbalance in the skin and the rest of your skin care routine would need to repair the damage done.
Dr. Hauschka cleansers are the ideal pH and gentle enough for the most sensitive of skins.
Toner is applied onto the skin WITHOUT cotton wool. Dr. Hauschka toners contain medicinal herbs to encourage the skin to function correctly, tighten pores and prepare the skin for the moisturiser. The Plant based alcohol carries the moisturiser ingredients deep into the skin where it is needed.
Moisturising is for protection, hydration and for dry skins, nourishing. Moisturising is only necessary in the day time.
Dr. Hauschka believes in an oil free night care. This is different to conventional skin care, the reason is: Oil-free night care products support the nocturnal metabolism of the skin, which is then at its most active. The skin is therefore able to use its powers of self-regeneration and regain its natural equilibrium. It is able to breathe freely and overcome any weaknesses and imbalances, staying healthy and beautiful.
Lymphatic stimulation is the heart of the Dr. Hauschka Treatment.
Lymphatic stimulation gives a harmonizing and decongesting impulse. Two soft brushes stimulate fluid flow in the connective tissue and the lymphatic system in such a way that the body is stimulated to natural waste removal.

Caro Copeland, the representative of Dr. Hauschka in South Africa, applies the Dr. Hauschka technique for the perfect long lasting look.
"To begin, it is important to apply cosmetics to a freshly cleansed, toned and moisturised skin," explains Caro. She applies the No.1 base suitable for Melissa’s skin tone, blended perfectly, allowing the skin to breathe. All bases are free of any synthetic preservative and scent.
Do Note: for evening wear you will need a fresh application.
Set foundation with a loose powder, however there comes a time when you will need less powder and in many cases none.
Important tip: Powder eyelids before applying eye make up, this helps to retain it perfectly. All Dr. Hauschka cosmetics for the eyes are natural as synthetics could affect your eyes years later.
Caro used pencil No. 3 to outline eyes and an eyeliner on the brows, which she softened later using a brush. Dust any remaining powder off the eye lid and apply eye shadow, which in this case is a light stone and filled in with No. 2. Apply pencil line on the lower lid.
Mascara should be applied by using upward strokes and finally sweeping outwards like a butterfly. This will give the lashes volume.
Apply blush on cheeks and for the final touch add lipstick No. 4 and a touch of lip colour to complete the look. You will notice that a lighter lipstick will make your lips appear fuller.
All Dr. Hauschka lipsticks are edible and natural.
The average women will consume 3kgs of lipstick in a lifetime. Please note toxic substances will be detrimental in later life. Lipsticks that have too lasting an affect could have paint like substances in them.
To have a beautiful and well-hydrated skin we
need to take good care of our kidneys and heal
your digestion, Dr. Hauschka points the way with
some excellent advice on health and vitality.
* Drink adequate amounts of pure spring water each day
* Get enough sleep each night +- 6 to 8 hours of deep sleep will allow the kidneys to cleanse the blood
* Walk daily, to work the abdominal muscles, massage the digestive tract and promote healthy elimination.
* Consume appropriate amounts of sea salt (the good salt), but avoid salty snacks
* Make plant foods your primary source of protein and supplement with small amounts of animal protein
* Have as little soft drinks and alcohol as possible
* Eat whole grains and vegetables daily for their high fiber content
* Natural laxatives can promote healthy elimination. Senna tea can be used
Cook three or four figs or prunes and a small handful of raisins in apple juice, at a low simmer, until all the fruit is soft (+- 20 minutes). Eat the compote at night, three hours before going to bed.
Upon rising, squeeze a quarter wedge of fresh lemon into spring water and drink 30 minutes before eating or drinking anything else.
Soak two tablespoons of flaxseed overnight. Eat the seeds upon waking the next morning. Chew thoroughly.
Eat fermented foods to replace healthy flora. These would include natural miso, sauerkraut, pickles and Japanese shoyu.

Healing Plant Substances
The U.S. government and Tufts University have developed a rating system for the antioxidant content of foods known as the Oxygen Radical Absorbency Capacity (ORAC) scale, it rates the individual foods by their antioxidant powers.
Special medicinal plants can work miracles on your skin. They are powerful sources of healing that have been used for years. Apply these plants to your face and body and watch your skin be transformed.
Anthyllis (a member of the pea family also known as kidney wretch): It promotes urinary and kidney health. It helps to heal wounds and treat skin disorders i.e. acne, rosacea, dermatitis and skin rashes.
Bryophyllum kalanchoe daigremontiana (mother of thousands): It is an excellent moisturiser and rejuvenates the skin while stimulating it to retain its own moisture. It also can promote wound healing and restores the skin’s firmness.
Calendula (Marigold): It is loaded with powerful substances i.e. oils, carotenoids and flavonoids. It has been used to heal wounds and reduce inflammation and treat bruises, cuts and burns. Calendula can treat acne, eczema, rosacea, and skin that has been injured.
German Chamomile: Chamomile when applied to the skin relaxes muscles and relieves muscle spasms. When consumed internally, it relieves anxiety, headaches, nervous tension and cramps. It is also an immune booster and used to treat colds and flu symptoms.
Lavender: It is an anti-inflammatory, an antispasmodic and an antiseptic; You can apply the oil directly on to the skin. It is deeply relaxing while at the same time uplifting. The essential oil of lavender is helpful in treating acne, dermatitis, rosacea, oily skin and dry skin. In aromatherapy, lavender relaxes and soothes the troubled heart and mind.
Dr. Hauschka’s Gift for you -
a selection of skin care treatments
to prepare at home.
Coarsely ground organic or almond butter.
Mix 1 teaspoon almond butter with a little spring water to make a paste and apply it to the face as you would ordinary soap. To make the product even more effective add oat flour or oat bran that has been coarsely ground. Oats will soothe, moisturize and act as a gentle exfoliant.
HOME MADE TONER
Place dried herbs (lavender or rosemary) in a jar. Pour warm apple cider vinegar over it and allow the mixture to sit for 2 weeks. Strain off the herbs and bottle the vinegar. Add 2 tablespoons to the herbal vinegar to 1 pint of water.
A wonderful moisture mask.
Mash ½ an avocado. Apply layer 1/8th inch thick to your clean face and sit for 20 to 30 mins. Rinse well with warm water and a face cloth.
It hydrates and brightens the face.
Evenly spread ¼ cup strawberry your gut over a clean face and sit for 20 to 30 mins. Tissue off and rinse.
This mask hydrates and purifies. Honey is a traditional healer.
Spread raw honey over a clean face, avoiding eye area. Sit for 20 to 30 mins. In order to promote pore cleansing, tap your fingers over the clogged pores lightly. This action creates tiny suctions that help dislodge clogged pores and blackheads. Rinse well with warm water.
