DINERS CLUB INTERNATIONAL 2009
WINELIST AWARDS

The Diners Club Awards, held each year in South Africa, are eagerly anticipated by the wine industry, hotels and restaurants. This prestigious international contest has been a fixture for many years and Michael Olivier, their convener, explains, "What the judges will be looking for is the restaurateur who takes trouble compiling the establishments’ wine list.  As with last year, we offer silver, gold, platinum and diamond awards, with a national ‘best wine list’ award in each of these categories."

The Best Winelist, won last year by The Cellars Hohenort Hotel, is up for grabs again. The small game lodge list of 20 wines, the family restaurant on the corner and the International Hotel Restaurants all stand an equal chance.  We are also offering best first entry wine list and the Wine Steward of the Year Award, won last year by Mortimer Stevens of Pezula in Knysna, which will go to fully employed wine stewards.  We look forward to receiving many entries this year and to the results being announced in September.

Judging will take place in August and the winners will be announced at awards ceremonies to be held in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town in September.

Entry forms are available online on the Diners Club website at http://www.dinersclub.co.za - click on about us and then events.

The closing date for entries is by close of business [16h00]
Friday, 17th July 2009.

SAUL BEDER INTRODUCES
HIS NEW WINTER MENU
BOUNTIFUL AND GENEROUS
DISHES TO SUIT THE TIMES.

Saul’s Taverna, a Mediterranean piazza restaurant, has simple and ample dishes from Portugal, Italy and Greece. Saul’s has a reputation for excellent seafood as well as game and healthy free-range dishes such as kudu and ostrich. Try their espatadas and ostrich shwarma; diced ostrich fillet with chopped salad, tzatziki and a freshly grilled pita. Delicious pork loin ribs, hickory smoked, imported from France and flamed grilled. The tapas menu is very popular and can take the place of dinner as it is so varied and abundant. There is an affordable wine list and a great collection of beer, over 25 to choose from.

Saul’s Taverna, which is one of five restaurants in The Saul’s Group, developed out of the original Saul’s Saloon & Grill on Main Road, Sea Point is synonymous with value.
