23 Wine Stewards from around South Africa, proudly representing their individual hotels, were put through their paces at a series of valuable and comprehensive workshops held over a period of three days by the South African Sommeliers Association (SASA) and the Cape Wine Academy both at The Westin Grand, and later at Van Ryn’s Distillery. There they hosted a number of superb whisky, brandy, cognac and sherry tastings conducted by experts in their field.
Guided cellar tours and wine tastings took place at several stunning estates, including the historic Die Bergkelder, situated in and around the Cape winelands, part of Distell’s Luxury Wines collection, where our candidates were riveted by top winemakers who shared their knowledge and wine lore with them over the very special day.
