UITKYK
Where traditions and trends meet.
In all its splendour!

Uitkyk Estate was founded in 1712 but the first vines were planted only in 1929 when the Prussian nobleman, Hans von Carlowitz, bought the estate, recognizing the farm's winemaking potential with its high slopes and their good soil and drainage.

Today Uitkyk is one of the most beautiful and prestigious wine estates in the Cape. The name means "look out", which it does - from the south western slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain where it is situated, across the Cape Peninsula to Table Mountain in the distance.  A splendid setting for the striking and magnificent homestead - a neo-classical masterpiece and one of only three remaining double-storied flat-roofed 18th century country houses that exists in its original form attributed to the French architect Louis Michel Thibault, who was active at the Cape at the end of the 18th century.

Uitkyk Sauvignon Blanc 2005

Estelle Lourens notes that the Uitkyk Sauvignon Blanc colour is pale straw with a slightly green tint and has a bouquet of herbaceous flavours, including green pepper and fig leaves, backed by granadilla and litchi.

"The taste," Estelle explains, "is lively! Melons and tropical flavours are the main notes. The wine is well structured and has a long finish."

Food pairing: This wine is made for food, as well as enjoyed in its own right. An array of seafood, cold meats, pasta or poultry.

Uitkyk Chardonnay 2003

The colour is pale lemon with faint green tinges. The bouquet of concentrated citrus aromas of lime and lemons predominate on the nose with a hint of peach and melon. Estelle tells us that the wine has spent considerable time in wood so that there is the added aroma of butterscotch, nuts and caramel.

Taste is reminiscent of citrus and pineapple with a suggestion of vanilla.

Although this wine is ready to enjoy now, it does have maturation potential and can be kept longer to enhance its complexity and character.

Food Pairing: Enjoy on its own or with pork fillet, grilled chicken or any delightful seafood dish.

Uitkyk Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2002

In Uitkyk Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2002, with the colour of an earthy deep red, we have an equal blend of these noble varietals, resulting in a wine with a pleasing bouquet of cedar, green peppercorns and vanilla. The well-balanced palate is supported by ripe, strong tannins.

Ready to drink now, but with the potential of further cellaring the wine, resulting in a complexity of character over the next three to seven years.

Food Pairing: Estelle suggests roast beef and lamb, venison fillet and it is superb with full flavoured cheeses.

Uitkyk Carlonet (Cabernet Sauvignon) 2001

* Gourmet Festival Gold 2006 Swiss * Veritas 2005 *
* International Challenge Wine 2005 Silver *

Award winning Uitkyk Carlonet Cabernet Sauvignon has delicate aromas of cassis, chocolate, honey and spices with a vanilla oak finish, which follows through onto the well-rounded palate, showing great aging potential.

Food Pairing: Delicious with roast duck, lamb, leg of venison and is a delectable accompaniment to the more well rounded blue cheeses.

Uitkyk Estate Brandy Grand Reserve
Rare, exceptional and of great complexity

The Uitkyk Brandy is 100% pot-stilled brandy made from Clairette Blanche and Cinsaut, which was double distilled in 2 000l pot stills over an open flame. After distillation the young brandy was matured for 10 years in 300 litre Limousin oak casks. It is a rare, exceptional brandy of great complexity with an ideal wood balance and a palate brimming with fruit, vanilla and spice.

 It is made in the traditional manner and should be served as a digestif with cigars and chocolates to round off a splendid feast.
