KWV INTERNATIONAL

A dynamic global trading company creating superb South African wines and brandies of distinction with an international stance.

The former KWV Co-operative came into being on 8th January 1918 and is one of South Africa's oldest and most prestigious companies in wine today. At the time KWV became the dynamic voice of the South African wine farmers as spokesperson, advisor, producer and marketer. Today we see a complete transformation with former members becoming the valued shareholders of KWV Limited.

KWV has a special mission to provide South African wines of superb quality to more and more countries. A direct and dynamic presence in world markets is maintained where they combine the best of South African wine styles with tastes of myriad cultures.

Notes for wine aficionados

KWV Reserve Chardonnay 2003

Chardonnay has all the advantages of a Mediterranean climate with cool afternoon breezes from the Atlantic ocean and the vines are grown in well drained soils with sufficient moisture for the grapes to ripen superbly.

A clean crisp fruity wine yet with a creamy texture, combining all the fragrance of ripe citrus with pears and peaches predominating, yet integrating with the typical woody oak flavours that add depth and dimension.

A delightful wine that is equally at home with the fine linefish of the Cape and the lighter white meats.

KWV Reserve Shiraz 2002

These grapes are specially selected from the Stellenbosh region, which is Mediterranean in character and has moderate summer days with cool ocean breezes in the afternoons.

The 'must' in this superb wine was fermented on the skins until dry. Malolactic fermentation took place and then the wine was matured in American oak barrels for 16 months before being bottled.

Shiraz is an important grape variety in South Africa and increasingly becoming internationally appreciated.

Deep cherry red in colour, the nose is spicy and peppery with nuances of oak flavour. Plumy fruits and hints of smokey leather give this wine an appealing touch with a good structure for holding and aging.

KWV Millennium Port 1999

The last bottled port of the old millennium to be treasured and appreciated for its style and potential.

Juice and grapes from Cinsaut and Tinta Barocca are fermented on the skin. 9-11ºB Brandy spirits then fortify the wine, after which it is blended, stabilised and bottled.

Port, rich fruity and unwooded has a very definite hint of raisins. This glorious wine has a full rich taste and a colour of rubies.

Port has a rich historical association and it is customary after dinner to pass the port and at the same time to serve a choice variety of cheeses together with crisp fresh walnuts.

KWV 20 Year Old Brandy

This fine double distilled potstill brandy has a deep golden amber hue and delicate floral bouquet balanced by robust nut and wood flavours. This award winning brandy has been matured in selected French oak barrels for 20 years.

It is interesting to know that KWV is home to one of the finest brandy distilleries in the world and that the brandy produced in South Africa is of a supreme quality.
