RUPERT & ROTHSCHILD
Vignerons

Fredericksburg, the historic French Huguenot farm in Franschhoek, founded more than three centuries ago in 1690, is the perfect link in the illustrious partnership in wine production between the Rupert family of South Africa and Baron Benjamin de Rothschild of France.

"A vintage wine, one of the most perfect of nature's products to those who can appreciate perfection." H.E. Armstrong in the Times, 1920

2001 Rupert & Rothschild Baron Edmond

Rupert & Rothschild's most exceptional wine, a triumph for the joint partnership and one that has many admirers the world over

With access to the finest vineyards, perfectly situated and skilfully tendered, R&R Baron Edmond is a blend of noble varieties Cabernet Sauvignon (66%) and Merlot (34%). Sorting of the grapes is done by hand, a vital factor in the creation of this particular wine.

A complex wine combining structure and fullness with a velvety smooth finish. The colour, opaque with rich mulberry hues and the aromas, gentle blackcurrant, white pepper and cinnamon with nuances of dark chocolate.

Elegant and classic the flavours are harmonious. Firm ripe tannins are concentrated and this superb wine, with great ageing potential, will reach optimum excellence five to six years from vintage.

Michel Rolland, a consultant to Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons and a world-renowned oenologist, visits the estate regularly to advise and assist cellar master Schalk-Willem Joubert and the winemaking team with their green harvest, the harvest itself, during the pruning time and the crucial final blending period.

2002 Rupert & Rothschild Classique

Elegant and sophisticated, R&R Classique is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (53%), Merlot (41%) and Pinotage (6%).  The colour of this wine is dark and plumy with ruby hues and has all the complexity of ripe fruit mingled with blackcurrant and blueberry aromas with hints of white pepper, coffee bean and a gentle earthiness.

Complete harmony has been achieved in this suave velvety wine. A balance between the components and integrated tannins create an unrivalled lingering in the aftertaste.

Although youthful and accessible immediately, as the years pass, the wine and its sophisticated flavours will gracefully mature.

With a love of wine in common, the Rupert & Rothschild families have a shared goal, to produce superlative wines that will grace the tables of the world with distinction.

2002 Rupert & Rothschild Baroness Nadine

In this supremely elegant wine the grapes were hand picked during the cool morning hours from the last week of January to mid-March 2002.

The colour of this exquisite wine is a light tint of lime green with delicate white gold edges. A most refreshing crisp Chardonnay with full citrus flavours and yet with a balanced creaminess incorporating tones of hazelnut.

R&R Baroness Nadine, an intriguing wine, is immediately accessible but will continue to develop and benefit from three to five years of bottle maturation.

Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons is the first winery in South Africa to be awarded the ISO 14001 environmental Management Certification.
