The impressive Arabella Hotel & Spa was a stunning spacious venue for the lunch, which took place in their private restaurant overlooking the golf course, the lagoon and the sea beyond. The table, set in vivid blue and white, set off the striking pink proteas to perfection. Lunch was stunning, an excellent collaborative menu masterminded by three of the Executive Chefs of the region; Uwe Grote (The Arabella Hotel & Spa), by Jean Pierre la Motte (NH The Lord Charles Hotel) and by Benjamin Conradie (Grootbos Private Nature Reserve).

The scene was set in the late afternoon for the Crème de la Crème Executive Chefs’ evening and continued with canapés and bubbly as the sun dipped and Cape Town was revealed in a shower of stars. The Westin, our host for the fourth launch of the Cape Legends Inter Hotel Challenge, was the venue for the dinner prepared by five top Executive Chefs; Grant Cullingworth (The Westin), Rudi Liebenberg (Belmond Mount Nelson), Malika van Reenen (Cape Grace), Shyam Longani (Taj Cape Town) and Carl van Rooyen (Vineyard Hotel).

C E L E B R A T E  T H E  D A Y!

 

 

 Winning Duo of Chefs; Lauren Case and Josh Wiid of the South African Chefs Academy created an excellent starter of braised pork cheek, served with light gnocchi and flavourful celeriac studded with nastergal berries.


 

South African Minister of Tourism Marthinus van Schalkwyk gave an excellent and pertinent keynote address updating the audience on tourism trends, undoubtedly South Africa is on the march with excellent hotel occupancies. Charismatic Reuben Riffel presented the prizes and gave a warm and eloquent address to the students. Our guest speaker was South African born Rozanne Stevens, who is now a popular broadcaster and teacher in Ireland. Rozanne has recently brought out Relish BBQ and Al Fresco Food, the second book in ‘The Ish Factor Series’

A Chef’s Table with Executive Chef Malika van Reenen at the prestigious Cape Grace with Cape Legends and Plaisir de Merle Winemaker Niel Bester, introducing their candidates for the  Inter Hotel Challenge.

The elegant Plaisir de Merle Grand Brut was paired unusually with the witty ham and fresh pea soup. Bacon and egg on toast completed this creative dish, delicate in flavour and vivid in colour.
